Connecticut Dental CE Requirements

Connecticut dentists must complete 25 contact hours of CE and dental hygienists 16 hours, each measured over the preceding 24 months (a biennial CE cycle), while the license itself renews annually in the licensee's birth month. There is no cap on self-study/online CE — up to 100% may be completed via approved distance learning. Dentists must include infection control and controlled-substances/pain-management hours; hygienists must include infection control and cultural competency.

Dental licenses renew annually in the licensee's birth month, but CE is measured over the preceding 24-month period (a 2-year/biennial CE cycle).

Key Connecticut requirements & rules:

• 1 hour — Infection control in a dental setting (required for dentists and hygienists)
• 1 hour — Prescribing controlled substances and pain management (dentists)
• 1 hour — Cultural competency (required for hygienists; also a qualifying topic for dentists)
• Dentists: at least 1 hour in three of the ten designated topics (e.g. risk management/record keeping, access to care, behavioral/mental health, cultural competence, medical emergencies)
• No self-study cap — up to 100% of CE may be completed online/distance learning
