Arizona Dental CE Requirements

Arizona dentists must complete 63 CE hours and dental hygienists 45 CE hours every three years (triennial cycle), with licenses renewing by the licensee's birth month. Dentists may complete up to 21 hours by self-study/online and hygienists up to 15 hours by self-study/online. Required topics include infectious disease/infection control, ethics or Arizona jurisprudence, opioid education (dentists), and current CPR certification. Arizona denturists must complete 36 total hours of continuing education every three years, with specific mandatory course topics including ethics or jurisprudence, infection control, CPR, and chemical dependency. Practice Management allowed. Denturists can taek 6 hours 12 hours — Botulinum toxin / dermal filler training (only if the licensee provides those services)

Licenses renew every third year, expiring 30 days after the licensee's birth month (renews by birth month; changed from the old June 30 date effective 2022).

Key Arizona requirements & rules:

• 3 hours — Opioid education/substance abuse or addiction (dentists, per 3 years)
• 3 hours — Infectious diseases / infection control
• 3 hours — Ethics or Arizona dental jurisprudence (dentists); hygienists: denturists
• 3 hours in chemical dependency, tobacco cessation, ethics, risk management, or jurisprudence (RDH only)
• CPR / BLS certification required
• 3 hours — Chemical Dependency or Tobacco Cessation
• Self-study cap: dentists max 21 of 63 hours; hygienists max 15 of 45 hours may be completed by self-study/online
