Course Description:

This course is designed to provide dental professionals with essential knowledge about chemical dependency, its impact on both patients and providers, and strategies for effective management and prevention in the dental setting. Participants will explore the physiological, psychological, and social aspects of substance use disorders, focusing on commonly abused substances, including alcohol, opioids, and other prescription drugs. The course will also address ethical considerations, signs of abuse, and how to approach patients with chemical dependency issues in a compassionate and professional manner. 

Course Objectives:

  1. Understanding the signs and symptoms of chemical dependency.
  2. Identify chemical dependency as encountered by healthcare workers in the workplace and in the general population.

    3. Review drugs used legally and illegally that cause dependency.

    4. Strategies for screening and referral to appropriate treatment resources
