Utah requires both dentists and dental hygienists to complete 30 hours of continuing education every two years (biennial cycle), with licenses expiring May 31 of even-numbered years. A maximum of 15 of those 30 hours may be earned through internet or home study (self-study) when verified by an exam and certificate. Additional mandates include current CPR-BLS certification and, for controlled substance prescribers, 2 hours of controlled substance prescribing CE. Maximum 3 hours may be in practice management. Licenses renew biennially and expire May 31 of even-numbered years; the 30 hours must be earned during each two-year licensure period.
