Texas Dental CE Requirements

Texas dentists and dental hygienists must complete 24 hours of continuing education every two years, renewing during their birth month. At least 16 hours must be technical/scientific clinical care, and no more than 8 hours may be self-study. NO CE broker Texas Board allows 8 hours of Prictice Managment per cycle. Finance courses are excluded. No Practice managment allowed.

Every 2 years (biennial)

Licenses renew biennially during the licensee's birth month. Dental Labs renew every 2 years Dec 31st.

Online CE in Texas: Important: Texas allows a maximum of 8 self-study (online/correspondence) hours per biennium, and at least 16 hours must be technical or scientific clinical care. Home Study Solutions online courses can cover up to those 8 self-study hours. Max 4 hours for Labs.

  • Risk Managment/Jurisprudence Asessment - 8 hours max, required every 4 years
  • At least 16 of the 24 hours in technical/scientific clinical care
  • Maximum 8 hours self-study (online/correspondence)/ 4 hours for Dental Labs/6 hours for Assistants
  • TSBDE Jurisprudence Assessment (every 4 years)
  • Dental Labs must complete 12 hours ( to include infection control/osha and technical competency courses, no more than 1 hour business course)
