North Dakota Dental CE Requirements

North Dakota dentists must complete 32 hours of continuing education and dental hygienists must complete 16 hours, each per two-year (biennial) cycle, with licenses renewing by December 31 of odd-numbered years. Up to one-half may be online self-study — 16 of 32 hours for dentists and 8 of 16 hours for hygienists — and 2 of the hours must be in infection control, with current CPR certification also required. The board collects CE via its own reporting form rather than CE Broker.

Key North Dakota requirements & rules:

• 2 hours — Infection Control (required each cycle)
• 2 hours — Ethics and Jurisprudence (required each cycle)
• CPR/BLS certification — must be current within the previous 24 months (hands-on component required)
• 2 hours — Medical Emergencies (permit holders)
• 1 hour — Practice Management (assistants only)
• 8 hours — opioid/substance use disorder training, one-time, for DEA-registered prescribers (federal MATE Act, not a state-specific rule)
• Self-study cap: max 16 of 32 hours (dentist) / 8 of 16 hours (hygienist) may be online self-study
