New Jersey Dental CE Requirements

New Jersey dentists must complete 40 hours of continuing education per two-year (biennial) cycle, and dental hygienists must complete 20 hours per biennial cycle. Online/electronic-media self-study is capped at one-half of the requirement — up to 20 hours for dentists and 10 hours for hygienists — with the balance completed live or in-person. Mandatory topics include CPR, professional ethics/NJ law, prescription opioids, and infection control (dentists also need pharmacology/internal medicine).

Online CE in New Jersey: New Jersey caps electronic-media distance learning (online/remote self-study) at one-half of the required hours — a maximum of 20 self-study hours for dentists and 10 self-study hours for dental hygienists per biennium; the rest must be live/in-person, and distance-learning courses must include a post-test to count. Note that live, synchronous, real-time interactive webinars are treated as in-person and do NOT count against this cap. Home Study Solutions online courses can cover up to those 20 (dentist) / 10 (hygienist) self-study hours.
