New Hampshire Dental CE Requirements

Renewing your New Hampshire license soon? Don’t wait until the deadline — knock out your CE today.

New Hampshire dentists must complete 40 CE hours and dental hygienists 20 CE hours each biennium (every two years), with dentist renewals in even years and hygienist renewals in odd years. At least 50% of CE must be live/interactive, so a maximum of about 50% may be completed as online/self-study (up to 20 hours for dentists and 10 for hygienists). Both must include 2 hours infection control and 2 hours medical emergency training, and NH tracks CE through CE Broker. EFDAs need 10m ce hours every 2 years. DAs do not . Uses CE Broker per NH website as of 11/24

Renewal
Every 2 years (biennial)

Biennial. Dentist licenses renew between February and April of even-numbered years (expiring March 31 of even years); dental hygienist licenses renew between February and April of odd-numbered years. The first renewal after initial NH licensure is exempt from CE.

Online CE in New Hampshire: New Hampshire requires at least 50% of your CE to be live/interactive, so a maximum of 50% may be completed as online/self-study — that is up to 20 of the 40 hours for dentists and up to 10 of the 20 hours for hygienists (NetCE also notes correspondence courses are separately capped at 20%). Home Study Solutions online courses can cover up to that 50% self-study portion; confirm the exact live-versus-self-study split with the board.

Key New Hampshire requirements & rules:

  • 2 hours — Infection Control (live or online, must reference current CDC infection prevention guidelines)
  • 2 hours — Medical Emergency Training
  • 30 hours (dentist) / 15 hours (hygienist) — Clinical dental care subjects, including current BLS-HCP certification
  • 3 hours — Pain management / addiction / opioid prescribing (only for DEA-registered, PDMP-enrolled licensees; may substitute an online exam)
  • Self-study cap: at least 50% of CE must be live/interactive, so a maximum of 50% (up to 20 hrs DDS / 10 hrs RDH) may be online/self-study
