Montana Dental CE Requirements

Montana dentists must complete 60 hours of continuing education and dental hygienists 36 hours, each over a three-year (triennial) cycle. All hours may be completed by home study/online, so there is effectively no self-study cap. A current CPR/BLS card is required, and Montana uses a self-audit process ([email protected]) rather than CE Broker. No opioid requirement.

Key Montana requirements & rules:

  • Current CPR/BLS card (ACLS or PALS also accepted) required for all active dentists and hygienists — expiration affirmed at renewal
  • Sedation permit holders: 20 hours anesthesia-related (deep sedation/general anesthesia) or 12 hours (moderate sedation) within the 60-hour dentist total
  • Self-study cap: up to 100% of CE (all 60 dentist / 36 hygienist hours) may be completed as home study — no self-study limit
