Mississippi Dental CE Requirements

Mississippi requires dentists to complete 40 hours of continuing education and dental hygienists to complete 20 hours per two-year (biennial) cycle, tracked on a calendar-year basis (January 1 through December 31). No more than 25% of the required hours may be self-study/home study — roughly 10 hours for dentists and 5 hours for hygienists. Current CPR certification is also required, with up to 4 CPR hours per year counting toward the total.

Biennial on a calendar-year cycle (reporting period runs January 1 through December 31). Dentists renew for the cycle running January 1 of an even year through December 31 of the following odd year; dental hygienists renew for the cycle running January 1 of an odd year through December 31 of the following even year.

• Prescribing Controlled Substances — 3 hours (dentists only)
• Self-study cap — a maximum of 25% of required CE (up to 10 hours for dentists, 5 hours for hygienists per 2-year cycle) may be computer-based/video/audio/reading/correspondence/home study
• CPR — current CPR certification is required; no more than 4 hours per year of CPR may count toward the CE requirement (up to 4 of the 8 hours of a 2-year CPR course each year)
