Massachusetts dentists must complete 40 CE hours (CEUs) and dental hygienists must complete 20 CE hours every 2 years (biennial); dentists renew by March 31 of even years and hygienists by March 31 of odd years. Up to half may be self-study: a maximum of 20 home study/online CEUs for dentists and 10 for hygienists per cycle, each requiring a passed test. Required topics include current CDC infection-control guidelines, CPR/AED or BLS certification, and opioid/safe-prescribing training for MCSR or DEA registrants.
Dentists renew by March 31 of even-numbered years; dental hygienists renew by March 31 of odd-numbered years (each covers the 24 months immediately preceding).
