Kansas Dental CE Requirements

Renewing your Kansas license soon? Don’t wait until the deadline — knock out your CE today.

Kansas dentists must complete 60 hours of continuing education and dental hygienists 30 hours every two-year (biennial) renewal cycle, with the hours earned in the 24 months before the December 1 license expiration. Dentists need 2 hours of ethics (hygienists 1 hour), and up to 4 CPR/BLS hours may count. Kansas sets no limit on self-study/online CE, so the entire requirement may be met through approved home-study courses. Renews both even and odd years, depending on whether the individual's license number is even or odd.

Licenses renew biennially and expire December 1; all required CE must be completed within the 24-month period immediately preceding license expiration.

Online CE in Kansas: Great for online learners: Kansas places no cap on self-study/home-study/online CE — dentists may complete all 60 hours and hygienists all 30 hours via approved home-study courses (ADA CERP or AGD PACE recognized). Key Kansas requirements & rules:

  • 2 hours — Ethics (dentists)
  • 1 hour — Ethics (dental hygienists)
  • Dentists: at least 40 of the 60 hours must relate to the clinical practice of dentistry (specialists: 40 hours in their specialty)
  • Up to 4 hours of CPR/BLS may be applied toward the total; a current BLS for the Healthcare Provider certificate is required
  • No self-study cap — up to 100% of CE may be completed by home study/online
