Delaware dentists must complete 50 hours of continuing professional education every two years, and dental hygienists must complete 24 hours every two years. The biennial cycle runs June 1 through May 31 of even-numbered years. Dentists may satisfy up to 30 of their 50 hours by self-study (online/correspondence), while hygienists may satisfy up to 10 of their 24 hours by self-study; both must also complete at least 2 hours of infection control and hold hands-on CPR certification.

Biennial cycle runs June 1 through May 31 of even-numbered years (licenses renew by May 31 in even years). CE is tracked through the state's DELPROS online system.

Online CE in Delaware: Dentists may complete up to 30 of their 50 required hours by self-study (online/correspondence) per biennium; the other 20 must be earned in a live/interactive setting. Dental hygienists may complete up to 10 of their 24 hours by self-study (with test and certificate of completion; a maximum of 5 of those may be self-study without testing). Note that CPR certification must be hands-on and cannot be completed online. Home Study Solutions online courses can cover up to those self-study hours (up to 30 for dentists, up to 10 for hygienists).

  • 2 hours — Controlled substances / prescribing / chronic pain (dentists who prescribe, dispense, or store controlled substances)
  • 8 hours — One-time training on treating and managing patients with opioid or other substance use disorders (DEA registrants)
  • Current CPR certification — hands-on clinical course required; online CPR not accepted
  • Self-study cap: dentists may complete up to 30 of 50 hours by self-study; hygienists up to 10 of 24 hours by self-study
