Arkansas dentists must complete 50 CE hours and dental hygienists 40 CE hours every 2 years (a biennial reporting period running Jan 1 of an even year through Dec 31 of the next odd year). At least 1 hour each period must be infection control. There is no self-study cap — 100% of the requirement may be completed by home study/online. The remaining hours can be general clinical care or practice management courses.

Renewal
Every 2 years (biennial)

CE is reported on a 2-year reporting period running January 1 of an even-numbered year through December 31 of the following odd-numbered year; licenses are renewed annually but CE hours are tallied against the biennial period.

Online CE in Arkansas: Great for online learners: Arkansas sets no cap on home-study (self-study/online/correspondence) CE — all 50 dentist hours or 40 hygienist hours per 2-year period may be earned through home-study courses that include a post-test and a certificate of completion. This means Home Study Solutions online courses can cover your entire CE requirement.

Key Arkansas requirements & rules:

  • 1 hour — Infection Control (at least 1 hour each 2-year reporting period)
  • 8 hours — Opioid / substance use disorder training, one-time only, for DEA-registered practitioners (federal DEA requirement)
  • Self-study cap: none — up to 100% of CE may be completed as home study/online, so Home Study Solutions can cover it all
