Alaska Dental CE Requirements

Alaska dentists must complete 32 contact hours of continuing education and dental hygienists 20 contact hours each biennial renewal, with licenses renewing by February 28 of each odd-numbered year. There is no per-cycle limit on self-study or online CE — all hours may be completed online — the only restriction being that no more than 8 Internet hours may count within any single 24-hour period. DEA-registered dentists must include 2 hours on pain management and opioid use and addiction, and current CPR certification is required.

Licenses expire and renew by February 28 of each odd-numbered year (biennial), regardless of issue date.

Key Alaska requirements & rules:

• CPR — current hands-on cardiopulmonary resuscitation certification required (up to 4 hours may count toward CE)
• 2 hours — Pain management and opioid use and addiction (required only if you hold a federal DEA registration)
• Volunteer dental-related service — no more than 2 CE hours may be credited
• Self-study/online — no per-cycle cap; the only limit is a maximum of 8 Internet CE hours counted per 24-hour period
