Alabama Dental CE Requirements

Alabama dentists must complete 20 CE hours each year and dental hygienists must complete 12 CE hours each year, on an annual renewal cycle tied to the calendar year. No more than half of the hours may be self-study/online/correspondence, so dentists can do up to 10 online hours (10 must be live) and hygienists up to 6 online hours (6 must be live). Mandatory topics include annual infection control and ethics, plus prescribing controlled substances for dentists and periodic CPR/BLS.

Online CE in Alabama: Alabama caps self-study (analog/digital media, journals, internet, correspondence, or distance-based) CE at no more than one-half of the annual requirement. For dentists that means a maximum of 10 self-study hours per year (at least 10 must be live/face-to-face), and for dental hygienists a maximum of 6 self-study hours per year (at least 6 must be live). Home Study Solutions online courses can cover up to those self-study hours — 10 for dentists and 6 for hygienists per year. CE is reported through CE Broker. Home Study Solutions is AGD PACE & ADA CERP approved.
