Course Description:

Special needs patients are an underserved segment of our society. Examine certain physical and emotional disabilites as well as methods used to promote a more positive dental experience for patients with special needs. Identify oral complications associated with certain disabilities.

Course Objectives:

  1. Understand the incidence of the special needs population in the United States.
  2. Gain knowledge of certain types of disabilities that may be encountered in the dental office.
  3. Identify signs, symptoms and oral complications associated with various types of disabilities and ways to adjust treatment planning to promote better oral health and increased patient comfort.
