Infection Control
4 CE Credits AGD Subject 14802 Course IC4
Course Description:
This course builds a complete office infection control program from the ground up, beginning with the microbiology that explains why each procedure works. Covers the characteristics of microorganisms, the steps in disease development, innate and acquired host defenses, and the oral microbiology behind caries, plaque and periodontal disease. Covers infectious disease transmissibility including bloodborne, oral, systemic, respiratory and waterborne diseases, standard precautions, the OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens Standard, instrument classification and processing, surface, water and radiographic asepsis, dental laboratory procedures, biohazardous waste management, employee safety training, OSHA reporting and recordkeeping, and fire prevention and emergency action plans. Vital information for the infection control and office safety coordinator.
This 4 credit course includes all of the material in our 2 credit Infection Control course, and adds the microbiology and immunology foundation, oral microbiology, and the full office safety and OSHA compliance program. If you need only the disease transmission and standard precautions material, select the 2 credit version.
Course Objectives:
1. Learn disease prevention by controlling the microorganism's transmission from patient to patient.
2. Identify barrier protection, disinfection procedures and disease processes caused by microbes.
