Course Description:
Dental technicians work with a variety of materials including waxes, plastics, precious and non-precious alloys, stainless steel, a variety of porcelains and composites or polymer glass combinations. Many technicians acquire skill in the use of sophisticated instruments and equipment while performing laboratory procedures. It is important for the technician to help create tooth replacements that are both attractive and functional.
Course Objectives:
1. Identify the characteristics and preparation procedures for plaster of Paris and artificial stone.
2. Identify the clinical use of seven dental waxes.
3. Identify the characteristics and preparation procedures for agar-type hydrocolloid impression materials.
4. Identify the characteristics and preparation procedures for alginate-type hydrocolloid impression materials.
5. Identify the characteristics and preparation procedures for synthetic rubber base impression materials.
6. Identify the characteristics of modeling plastic and impression paste.
