Course Description: 

This course provides an in-depth exploration of the COVID-19 pandemic through the lens of health professionals. It covers the medical, social, and psychological aspects of the pandemic, examining how healthcare workers, including doctors, nurses, public health officials, and support staff, have navigated the unprecedented global health crisis. Topics include the epidemiology of COVID-19, the role of vaccines, clinical treatment strategies, the impact on healthcare systems, mental health implications for both patients and healthcare providers, and ethical challenges encountered throughout the pandemic.

Course Objectives:

1.To provide the learner with a history and current information regarding COVID-19

2. To provide information regarding modes of transmission and identify high risk patients

3. To help reduce transmission of the coronavirus in the dental office setting with modifications in the office as recommended by the American Dental Association.

4. To identify methods of reducing cross-contamination through PPE, hand hygiene protocol and implementation of social distancing within the dental practice setting.

5. To establish pre-appointment screening protocols to identify true dental emergencies in accordance to the ADA  guidelines.

6. To provide specific clinical changes that should be implemented during the treatment of true dental emergencies in order to reduce possible COVID-19 exposure.
