Course Description:
This course provides dental professionals with essential knowledge on the types of eating disorders commonly seen in patients, including anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, and binge eating disorder. Participants will learn to recognize the physical, emotional, and behavioral signs of these conditions, along with the potential consequences on oral health, such as tooth erosion, gum disease, and dry mouth.The course will also cover how to communicate effectively with patients who may be struggling with eating disorders and how to create a supportive, non-judgmental environment.
Course Objectives:
1. Recognizing signs and symptoms of eating disorders.
2. Learn how to discretely advise patients suspected of eating disorders.
3. Recognize the oral manifestations of eating disorders, such as enamel erosion, xerostomia (dry mouth), and poor oral hygiene.
4. Develop strategies for addressing sensitive conversations about eating habits and body image.
5. Review current trends in society.
